Fillers: What Benefits Do They Provide?

What is a Filler?

Fillers have been around for quite some time. In the 21st century it is quite common to want to refresh one’s look with a little bit of help.

Fillers overall do just what they say, they “fill out” an area on your face, like a wrinkle or line or crease. In some instances the surface will become totally smoothed out.

Fillers can also act as a “liquid lift” of the face without surgery. By strategic filling of the midface and over the facial bones, the tissues can actually be lifted as they are filled. This is a key benefit of fillers aside from the smile lines and marionette lines around the mouth and nose that have been the primary focus until recently. The expansion into other areas of the face provides the patient with additional benefits for those seeking a rejuvenated look.

Types of Fillers

There are many types of fillers available. There are also many options now as to who you can get fillers from. There are many types of businesses that provide fillers. Above all, I would suggest that you have them done by a physician in a medical setting. Also, no matter what kind of doctor you choose, as plastic surgeons, dermatologists, ophthalmologists, ENT’s and many other highly specialized doctors now offer fillers and other cosmetic procedures as part of their practice, that it be a doctor that you trust and that is ready to answer your questions beforehand and the provide any follow-up care that you need after. I especially say this because maintenance of facial lines and wrinkles is not usually a one-time deal, and so it is good to develop a relationship with the doctor you are using.

There are 4 types of wrinkle fillers. These are hyaluronic acid fillers, synthetic wrinkle fillers, collagen wrinkle fillers and autologous wrinkle fillers. All of these work differently and your doctor can help you determine which is best for you.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are the ones with the brand names you have probably heard of the most. This type is the most popular kind right now. These brand-names fillers contain hylauronic acid in some form in them.

Synthetic wrinkle fillers are not natural substances but made in a laboratory. These usually have a longer-lasting effect than hyaluronic acid fillers.

Collagen wrinkle fillers are made from natural collagen or synthetic collagen. Some people think that using this substance makes the end product look more natural.

Autologous wrinkle fillers are made from fat extracted from somewhere in your own body. This is the least common type of filler right now.

All of these fillers will provide you with a filled-out wrinkle or crease of varying degrees. However, they all do have possible side effects, especially with people with certain types of allergies, and they all have results of varying longevity.
